Rainscreen Construction Overview
The timber or metal framework of the building is constructed and covered in an approved sheathing board over which a suitable membrane is installed to protect the core of the building from moisture. Timber battens or metal fixing sections ("helping hands" or tophat section) are installed at standard centres dependent upon the height of the elevation, and the proximity of apertures and distance to stress points within the construction, such as corners. Rainscreen insulation is also installed if required at this stage.
ProBoard - Advanced render carrier board is fixed into the fixing sections as defined in the specification, using stainless steel fixings. Prior to fixing the ProBoard, all ventilation, expansion joints and firebreaks are considered and installed.
Ventilation is achieved by means of aerated starting beads at the base of the facade and through panels or ventilated soffits at the top. Complete through-ventilation is achieved around the fixing sections, especially in the vicinity of apertures within the construction.
Expansion joints are installed depending upon the area of the elevation. Firebreaks occur at ceiling/floor level between floors of a dwelling and where one dwelling meets another, as directed by building regulations (Approved Document B).
ProRend Lite, cementitious basecoat is applied to the surface of the ProBoard. This highly flexible and lightweight basecoat is used as a reinforcement layer in the system, protecting the ProBoard and providing a flat surface for the visual finish to be applied to.
Timber Frame
ProWall is ideally suited to timber frame construction and the strength of our detailing has been supported and developed with key partners including the NHBC and UKTFA. The following is a guide to ProWall when used over timber frame structures. Commonly overlooked but important features are included, such as:
