External Wall Insulation

The Strikotherm EWI (External Wall Insulation) System offers high thermal efficiency and a durable, long lasting finish. Combining expanded polystyrene and mineral fibre insulation boards to achieve a design u-value through the wall is a cost effective and proven modern method of construction.

The Strikotherm System has BBA Certification for 25 years design life, incorporating wind loadings, fire resistance, impact resistance and condensation characteristics.

The specification and design process for Strikotherm EWI will involve:

  • Calculations to achieve u-values for new or existing walls (to Part L Building Regs)
  • Full specification and CAD detailing
  • Recommendations on design detailing such as window cills and copings
  • Provision of approved recommended contractors
  • Technical completion certification and site visit

System Breakdown

More illustrative technical detailing can be seen in our ProRend EIFS pages; EIFS is developed for the general construction market in the UK, with Strikotherm being better suited to larger commercial and residential projects.

Strikotherm system are particularly suited to the current measures under the Community Energy Savings Programme (CESP) along with the Carbon Emissions Reduction Target (CERT), which forms part of the national obligation to reduce our carbon footprint. SAS are also working in anticipation of The Green Deal, due to commence in 2012.

Green Deal Solid Wall Insulation

It is currently estimated that 35% of heat loss in existing homes occurs through the walls, whilst solid wall properties lose around 45%. SWI measures such as Strikotherm EWI are proven to be the most effective method of reducing this loss and maximising savings for occupants. The Energy Saving Trust have stated that SWI would save the average home £375 a year in fuel cost and with a 25 year guarantee on Strikotherm; the figures look strong.
